Slate has a pretty solid article on the OS versus browser wars filtered down to… tabs.  I suspect with the increased ubiquity of secure online options for storing content, the pull of collaborative online tools will be the main causal factor in user migration towards using the browser as their main interactive tool.  The inflection point? Within 2 years. All that jargony crap above = browser for teh win!
